The National Premier Leagues (NPL) is a national competition platform created to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape

Triangle United entered the South Atlantic NPL League as a founding member in 2012 entering our boys and girls teams.  Beginning in the fall of 2021, only our boys were members of the South Atlantic NPL League due to there not being enough girls teams to play.

The league currently consists of 12 member clubs which are as follows:

  • BARCA Academy (NC)
  • Charleston SC (SC)
  • Charlotte SA (NC)
  • Hoover-Vestavia (AL)
  • North Alabama SC (AL)
  • SC Surf (SC)
  • Southern Soccer Academy (SC)
  • Tennessee United (TN)
  • Triangle United (NC)
  • Tormenta FC (GA)
  • UFA (GA)
  • Wake FC (NC)

Over the years, we have had numerous winners of the South Atlantic League which represented our league at the NPL Finals.  For the year 2021-2022, we had 2 teams (2008 + 2005) qualify for the NPL Nationals in Commerce, Colorado.  In addition to the 2008 + 2005, the 2006 qualified for the NPL East Playoffs   The 2009 Boys were finalists and one game away from making the NPL East Playoffs.

The National Premier Leagues (NPL) is a national competition platform created to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape by:

  • extending developmental principles espoused by U.S. Soccer into more age groups and clubs
  • linking competition with player development and identification platforms
  • providing meaningful weekly competition culminating in a national postseason

NPLs are leagues unified under one national competition platform and based on a common technical framework. More specifically, the NPL provides a platform:

  • focused on long-term player development
  • for the country’s top soccer clubs, allowing consistent, meaningful high-level games appropriately scheduled with higher training-to-game ratios and eliminate calendar congestion
  • integrated with the id² Program, which includes Player Development Programs (PDPs) in select local markets, and that works closely with U.S. Soccer staff regarding player identification, and player and coach development
  • designed and structured by the clubs, based on the needs of the clubs
  • that provides an avenue for qualification for the Girls NPL Finals and US Club Soccer Boys National Championship between clubs in developing programs and promoting the best interests of players and the game.
