Triangle United is to pleased to announce the hiring of Kyle Johnston, the club’s new Goalkeeping Director. Kyle is currently the Duke Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper coach and will continue in that role, while also serving in this role for the club. Kyle will assume this role beginning October 1st.
Kyle will oversee all aspects of the Triangle United Goalkeeper program, including but not limited to the development of a GK Game Model, a periodization plan for development, oversee and work with the goalkeeper trainers, communicate with all goalkeepers, and help to develop sessions that fit within the overall club’s game model. Kyle will also be on the field with our goalkeepers not only in a training environment, but also evaluating them during training and games to help in their overall development.
This is Kyle’s second year with the club, having served as a goalkeeper trainer for the club when he moved to North Carolina in 2023. The club is very excited about bringing on Kyle in this capacity due to his experience and understanding of the position. More information will from the club and Kyle will be sent out to the club’s goalkeepers shortly.
Prior to joining the Blue Devils, Kyle worked at UNC, as well as the College of Charleston as an assistant coach. He was also the Goalkeeper Director for the South Carolina Surf youth club while in Charleston. As a student-athlete, Johnston was a two-time captain for Sewanee, a four-time All-SAA honoree and was named to the All-South Region Third Team selection following his senior campaign.
Following his graduation from Sewanee in 2019 with a degree in International and Global Studies, he went on to play in the United Soccer League for Carolina Dynamo and Houston FC before entering the coaching ranks. In 2024, Johnston earned his Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches Association.
