Annual AGM and Board Candidates Announced

The Annual General Member meeting for current Triangle United families will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at 6:30 PM in the main building of Triangle Church (5510 Barbee Chapel Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27517).  The club is also very excited to announce the annual slate of board candidates for membership approval.  The following are the candidates’ names and a brief description of their backgrounds.

Mike Hill- I am interested in serving on the Board as a parent of one player that has played at the Gold level for several years and a second player who is just starting the process as a U11 player.  I believe that I can contribute in a positive way as a result of my real estate development experience (most notably I was responsible for the development of the American Tobacco project and Durham Bulls Athletic Park while serving as Capitol Broadcasting Company’s general counsel from 1991-1997), which I hope can assist TUSA with any plans for the development of facilities.  I hope also during my time as a Board member to nudge TUSA to a more constructive role in assisting players (and their parents) to evaluate their opportunities to play in college.

Jennifer Lawson- As a general pediatrician, supporter of early literacy in the underserved, school volunteer, and parent, I am an advocate of child well-being in most aspects of my life.  My children have played youth soccer in the Woodcroft and Rainbow recreational programs and then progressing to the Triangle United Classic Gold level, most recently competing at a national level of play.  Their experience and participation have offered me some perspective on the many and various aspects of youth soccer.  I welcome the opportunity to serve on the board, sharing our perspective and experience as the club moves forward.

Liz Sweeney- Liz is a long time resident of Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of Carolina and has worked as a Creative Director at McKinney, an advertising agency in Durham, for over 20 years. Liz has three children who have all played for Triangle United at various levels. Her daughter, coached over the years by both John Cirillo and Cindy Parlow, played for Carolina in 2011. Her youngest son is currently on the ’97 Silver team coached by Davis Boyle. Liz attributes TU as one of the most positive center pieces of her children’s formative years and would love to see families of all incomes be able to have the TU experience. She believes coaches should coach and parents should be positive supporters. Liz is also an advocate of improving club facilities, in particular, field access and control.
