National Premier League (NPL)

What is the National Premier League?

The NPL is a national competition platform created to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape by:

  • extending developmental principles espoused by U.S. Soccer into more age groups and clubs
  • linking competition with player development and identification platforms
  • providing meaningful weekly competition culminating in the NPL Finals

NPLs are leagues unified under one national competition platform and based on a common technical framework. More specifically, the NPL provides a platform:

  • focused on long-term player development
  • for the country’s top soccer clubs, allowing consistent, meaningful high-level games appropriately scheduled with higher training-to-game ratios and eliminate calendar congestion
  • integrated with the id² Program, which includes Player Development Programs (PDPs) in select local markets, and that works closely with U.S. Soccer staff regarding player identification, and player and coach development
  • designed and structured by the clubs, based on the needs of the clubs
  • that provides an avenue for qualification for the NPL Finals and Elite National Premier League

TUSA & NPL

Beginning with the 2018-19 season, CSA Elite North/H’ville and CSA Elite South are adding its boys and girls teams, while Tormenta FC is bringing its boys teams.

These two clubs join an experienced group of other clubs, several of which have been members of the South Atlantic Premier League for years. The league first joined the NPL landscape in Fall 2012 and includes 13-U through 19-U boys and girls teams. While girls participants aspire to the annual Girls NPL Finals, boys teams are working towards earning national championships as part of the Elite National Premier League (ENPL) structure.

The NPL, as a whole, is made up of various regional leagues (NPLs) throughout the country. It’s a proven, club-driven commodity that has elevated the youth soccer landscape and linked competition with player development and identification platforms.

The ENPL is a collaboration between US Club Soccer and the ECNL to raise standards in youth boys soccer across the country.
