On June 13-15, 2008, two Triangle United teams became the first club teams to compete in USYSA regional play as NC state champions. The 90 Girls Gold coached by Cindy Parlow and the 91 Boys Silver played in the Region III President’s Cup in Columbus Ga. The girls won their place last fall as the champions of the NCYSA Presidents cup. The 91 Silver boys defeated the Triangle United 91 boys Bronze team in the championship game of the Presidents cup just two weeks ago to earn the right to represent North Carolina in Georgia this weekend.
The 90 Gold girls lost their last game in group play to eventual finalist Fusion (LA), while the 91 Silver boys reached the regional final, losing to Texas FC Black. For more details, see the Region 3 regionals website below:
The 91 Boys Gold team coached by UNC’s Elmar Bolowich competed in the USYSA regionals June 20-25, 2008 in Raleigh/Wilson, NC after winning the club’s first USYSA state championship in Greensboro on May 18th.
The 91 Gold boys won 6 games in 6 days to win the regionals, and will represent Region 3 at the USYS Nationals in Little Rock, AR July 22-27, 2008. They scored late in the semi-finals to win 3-2 against Solar SC (TX) and came back from down 0-2 to win 4-2 with 3 goals in the last 20 minutes against Lonestars Red (TX) ... the last two opponents were both ranked Top 10 nationally ...
