Durham Inner City Soccer Program

2nd Year Triangle United working with Durham Elementary Schools

For the 2nd year in a row, Triangle United, the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League (DBYAL), and the Police Athletic League (PAL) of Durham, have joined together to create an inner-city soccer program for Durham elementary schools.

We have 10 elementary schools in the City of Durham to work with this Fall.  Those 10 schools are Burton, C.C. Spaulding, Club Blvd, Eastway, Holt, Merrick Moore, Morehead, R.N. Harris, W.G. Pearson, and YE Smith.  The schools train once during the week and play games on Saturday mornings at C.C. Spaulding Elementary School.  This program is completely FREE to all participants.

The program will begin the week of September 19th and the first set of games will take place on Saturday October 1st.  The goal of the program is to encourage elementary kids to get active and particpate in the sport of soccer. Through this we hope to also teach the kids teamwork, values, sportsmanship, leadership skills, and so forth.  Each school is set up with a Durham Police officer along with other volunteers from the school, Triangle United, as well as the community.

The target number for each school is to get 40 participants, which would get our program up to 400 players.    As more information and pictures of the program become available, we will put online for everyone to view.

We would like to thank Eurosport Soccer for their donation of 400 t-shirts (10 colors x 40 shirts) for each of the schools to wear on game day. We would also like to thank nike for their donation of 130 soccer balls.
